The new Solar Saline Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plant (Solar SWRO) for 30.000 m3/day will meet the needs of 100.000 dwellers for Al Khafji City in Saudi Arabia.
Under the initiative of the King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), an independent governmental scientific organization, the Solar SWRO Desalination Plant in Al Khafji will be the first large scale plant operated by solar energy in the world.
This high-tech project has developed smart low energy consumptions systems to adjust solar power offers to improve operational desalination procedures.
Al Khafji SWRO Desalination Plant proposes an excellent solution for one of the most complex area - the Arabic Gulf- for water desalination: achieving high quality drinkable water under very tough conditions such as high salinity, presence of oils and greases, sea shallowness plant location, seasonal red tides and jellyfishes.
